Who they are
Ruru Tiny Homes is run by Fran and Daniel Huelsmeyer, who built tiny homes in New Zealand from 2020 and set up an Australian company in April 2026. The New Zealand business is still trading and calls Queensland its second branch. The Australian site says the first Queensland home, a Brolga XS, is being built October to December 2026 with the University of Queensland.
What they make
Timber-framed tiny homes on wheels, single and double storey, 8 to 11.5 m long and 3 or 4 m wide, with one to four bedrooms. There are eight priced designs plus a custom service. It also offers small dwellings on foundations built by a QBCC-licensed builder under contract, not priced.
What the price covers
Published prices run from $199,000 for the Brolga XS or Wren to $255,000 for the Lorikeet, with a fixed price quote per buyer. Delivery is quoted separately. The site does not say what site works or connections are included.
Installing one in Queensland
Ruru arranges delivery and hands over on site. A tiny home on wheels needs no building approval, but where it can be placed and lived in varies by council, which the maker says itself. For a council-approved secondary dwelling, Ruru offers a foundation build by a QBCC-licensed builder it does not name.
Who it suits
Buyers who want a timber-framed tiny home on wheels, including families wanting a double storey with up to four bedrooms.
Worth checking
No completed Australian home, display home, warranty or Class 1a statement is published yet; the homes shown are New Zealand builds. Ask for the warranty in writing, the name and licence of the builder for any foundation home, and check your council allows a home on wheels for living.
