Who they are
PennyGranny is a Sydney company, PennyGranny Pty Ltd, ABN since January 2022, that sells and hires transportable cabins and granny flats. It hires in Queensland, NSW, the ACT and Victoria and sells Australia wide. Its CEO is Michael Doubinski.
What they make
One and two bedroom cabins from 20.3 m² to 49 m², on a steel UB base with 50 mm EPS wall and ceiling panels and Colorbond cladding and roofing; several models list BAL40-rated panels. Cabins are built by PennyGranny or by other Australian manufacturers to its specification. Off-grid and accessibility options are offered.
What the price covers
Published prices are ex GST and ex factory, from $62,205 to about $106,000. Delivery, crane, installation, connections, engineering drawings, approvals and decks are all extra. Most models can be hired weekly instead.
Installing one in Queensland
PennyGranny supplies the cabin and can provide engineered drawings; the buyer arranges delivery, crane, footings and connections. On a Queensland block a granny flat needs building approval as a dwelling, and a QBCC licensed builder or owner builder does the site work.
Who it suits
Buyers wanting a small one or two bedroom cabin with a published price, or who want to hire before buying.
Worth checking
Prices exclude GST and every site cost, so add 10% and the install. Ask which manufacturer built your cabin, whether it is certified as a Class 1a dwelling for Queensland, and what warranty applies; none is published.
