Who they are
Container Build Group is a Lismore shipping container builder, run by Jamie Van Tongeren, trading since 2008 per a local business profile, with a company ABN from 2010. It builds homes, cabins and hospitality units in its South Lismore factory, and has a showroom there by appointment.
What they make
Container homes and cabins from single 20 ft (6 m) and 40 ft (12 m) units to multi-container homes, such as the two-bedroom Lennox and Blue Tongue built from two 40 ft containers. Units sit on steel posts and can be engineered to cyclone rating C4.
What the price covers
The only published price is the Granny Cabin 20 ft from $38,900 + GST, and the site says its model prices are illustrative and may be years out of date. The contract covers the factory build, drafting, engineering and a soil test; transport, the install, footings and council fees are extra.
Installing one in Queensland
Containers are trucked about two and a half hours north from Lismore to SE Queensland, at a base estimate of $3 per km. The buyer picks a local builder, who sets the steel posts, places the units and connects services under that builder's QBCC licence and home warranty. Building approval comes through your certifier with the plans and engineering Container Build Group supplies.
Who it suits
Buyers who want a container home or cabin and are happy to engage their own Queensland builder for the site work.
Worth checking
There is no current price list, no published warranty and no Class 1a statement, so get a written quote, the warranty terms and the builder's QBCC licence before paying the 50% deposit.
