Who they are
Classic Kit Homes is a family-owned Queensland kit home supplier run by directors Heather and Adrian. It says it has supplied customers since 1990; its two current companies registered ABNs in 2013 and 2015. It designs, drafts and engineers each kit, then supplies the materials for an owner builder or a builder to put up.
What they make
The range covers kit homes, granny flats and cabins, from about 69 to 94 square metres including verandahs. Frames and trusses are pre-nailed kiln dried treated pine, with steel available at extra cost, on adjustable steel posts with hardwood floors. Three granny flat plans are drawn under 60 square metres of living area, and a Scandi Cabins line uses 80mm glulam timber walls.
What the price covers
No prices are published; buyers get a fixed kit price through a quote form. The kit covers design, drafting, engineering and materials, delivered in stages, free within South East Queensland. Labour, footings, plumbing, wiring and connections are not in the kit price.
Installing one in Queensland
Classic Kit Homes does not build. The buyer either builds under a QBCC owner builder permit or hires a licensed builder to lock-up or completion, and that builder signs as the builder. The company offers phone support and a free owner builder course. Approval is through the buyer's certifier.
Who it suits
Owner builders, or buyers with their own builder, who want a custom-drawn timber kit and are prepared to manage the build.
Worth checking
The kit price is a fraction of the finished cost, so get a builder's quote before committing. No warranty terms are published; ask what the kit supply contract covers and which of the two companies you are contracting with.
